Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khang, President of the VGCL delivers a closing speech at the 13th National Congress

The Congress approved important documents: Report of the 12th Executive Committee of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour presented at the 13th National Congress of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour; Report reviewing the 12th Executive Committee for the 2018 – 2023 tenure; Amended and supplemented Trade Union Charter; Resolution of the 13th National Congress of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour.

The Congress was honored to welcome Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to attend and deliver a directive speech, clearly affirming the position and role of the working class and the Viet Nam Trade Union, praising the great contributions large contingent of workers, officials, labor and Trade Union organization in the cause of building and protecting the Fatherland over the past 90 years and in the 2018-2023 tenure. The Party General Secretary emphasized the new requirements and tasks set for the working class and the Trade Union organization in the coming time; the responsibility of all levels, sectors and the entire society to care for, build and promote the role and mission of the Vietnamese working class in the period of accelerated industrialization, modernization and international integration.

The Congress promoted democracy to elect the Executive Committee of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, term XIII, including 168 members. The Executive Committee of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, term XIII, held its first session to elect the Presidium, the Standing member of the Presidium, the Inspection Committee and the Chairman of the Inspection Committee. The Executive Committee of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour was introduced and received its tasks in the presence the Congress.

Forum No. 9: Improve the effectiveness of trade union foreign affairs, promote the role of industry trade unions participating in international integration

Previously, on November 30, 2023, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, thematic Forum No. 9 was held to discuss the topic: “Improving the effectiveness of trade union foreign affairs, promoting the role of industry trade unions in participating international integration”. This is one of 10 forums organized by the Viet Nam General Confederation of Labor before the 13th National Congress.

At the forum, delegates focused on discussing, analyzing and clarifying the context of current international integration, identifying difficulties and challenges, and determining the role of the Vietnam Trade Union to contribute to promoting the country’s integration process, evaluating foreign affairs activities in recent times, effectively exploiting international resources to improve the operational and research capacity of the trade union, etc.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Tho, Director General of the Viet Nam National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (VNNIOSH), attended and gave a presentation at the forum with the topic: “Strengthening the role of international cooperation in research and promoting occupational safety and health (OSH) for workers – Tasks and solutions”. The presentation clearly stated the overview of international cooperation in the field of OSH; assessment of effectiveness, current situation and causes, opportunities and challenges in international cooperation activities in OSH field; clearly define the tasks and propose a group of actionable solutions which mainly focus on attracting resources from abroad, effectively taking advantage of the support of international scientists, building and training scientific researchers and officials with solid knowledge, proactiveness, creativity in many fields to meet human resource requirements in the new situation, etc.
